14 things to do with your kids this weekend (September 30 to October 1)

Plan your weekend with these events including festivals, arts and live music. Be sure to check event websites for last minute changes due to Hurricane Ian and its impacts on the Triangle.

Sept. 14-Oct. 2: Frozen – It’s the last weekend to see this musical version of the popular Disney film at the Durham Performing Arts Center.

Sept. 30-Oct. 1: Bluegrass Live! – This bluegass party will continue as planned, but it will be indoors! Street festival vendors and performers will be relocated to the convention center, while the main stage acts scheduled to play at the Red Hat Amphitheater will take place at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.
Sept. 30-Oct. 1: Oktoberfest Triangle The Rotary Apex Sunrise and Cary MacGregor Clubs have partnered with the Town of Cary to host the eighth annual Rotary Triangle Oktoberfest Party at Cary’s Booth Amphitheater from September 30-October 30. 1. This festival includes live music, food and more fun.
Sept. 24-Jan. 8: The Questioneers exhibition at Kidzu – This brand new exhibit is based on one of my family’s favorite book series, The Questioneers, written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts. It celebrates science, technology, engineering, art and math. Celebrate the grand opening of this traveling exhibit at Kidzu in Chapel Hill and find inspiration to solve everyday mysteries and think more critically about their world.
September 30: Jim Quick and the Coastline – The Downtown Concert Series in Clayton kicks off at 6 p.m. with food trucks, live music, a bouncy house and more in the town square.
September 30: Last Fridays and the Art Walk – Hillsborough comes alive on the last Friday of the month with music, arts, crafts, shopping and culture. This event takes place from 6-9 p.m. on the lawn of the historic Orange County Courthouse. There will be a children’s painting workshop, a drumming workshop and more.
October 1st : Community Celebration of the Arts – Head to the Alston-Massenburg Center and Taylor Street Park for this free, family-friendly event. It will include food, music and a variety of indoor and outdoor art activities for children of all ages, including rock painting, chalk art and ‘do it yourself’ kits at assemble on site or take home.
October 1st : Taste of China Festival – The China-American Friendship Association of North Carolina (CAFA) will present its 3rd annual Taste of China – Chinese Food and Culture Festival in downtown Cary. The festival features delicious Chinese cuisine, traditional arts and live performances.
October 1st : Wild About Nature Festival – Formerly known as Bass Lake Day, the Wild About Nature festival offers experiences to learn more about the world around us. See and meet animals, learn from local nature conservation organizations, and participate in hands-on activities including fort building and fossil digging at Holly Springs.
October 1st : Celebrate the Fuqua-Varina Festival – Celebrate Fuquay-Varina from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy live entertainment, craft beer, food trucks, arts and crafts, and a free kids’ zone.
October 1st : Garner Fire Festival – Watch firefights, watch a live shooting demonstration and enjoy a parade down Main Street. Food, music and lots of fun!
October 1st : Fall Family Movie Nights at the Clayton General Store This will be the second movie night in the series, showing “The Addams Family.” The general store will have a food truck on site and the store will be open to serve ice cream and treats.
October 2: Fall Festival in North Hills – Join the MAKRS Society for this extra large fall event. Kick off the season with live music, local MAKRS, food trucks, drinks, kids zone, facilities and an exclusive VIP lounge. Tickets start at $15.
